The Globish Foundation

Globish Foundation Affiliates Assembly

Charter

Globish Foundation Affiliates are entities (maybe companies, NGOs, individuals) formally associated with the Globish Foundation as such by proclamation of the Foundation Board of Trustees. For example, an Affiliate might be an entity working in a country or geographic region, promoting Globish. In recognition of this important role, the entity might be invited to operate as an Affiliate of the Globish Foundation for that country or region.

The Affiliates Assembly consists of representatives of these Affiliates as nominated from time to time by the Affiliate and recognised by the Board of Trustees. The Affiliates Assembly gives advice to the Global Foundation Board of Trustees on technical and strategic issues that relate to the operation of the Foundation. The Affiliates have a dual role: internally to assist in and advise on the developments that take place within the Foundation and externally to liaise with the stakeholder community and other global initiatives. These roles are further detailed below.

1. Internal role

The Affiliates Assembly is a major source of expertise that can be drawn upon by the Board of Trustees in determining Foundation activities. The Assembly can and should provide timely technical and strategic reviews of proposals and activities that emerge from Foundation activities, global events, and the Foundation's Task Groups.

2. External role

Affiliates Assembly members are ambassadors of the Globish Foundation. Some members will liaise and maintain links with stakeholders in the global Globish community and Foundation; other members will be concerned with interactions between and coordination of ations of Foundation Affiliates. All Assembly members have a dual responsibility: to serve as a voice of their constituents to raise issues in the Foundatioon and to assist in communicating the activities, needs and results of Foundation activities back to the community.

Affiliates Assembly Activities

The Affiliates Assembly operates by mailing list (closed discussion group), face-to-face meetings, telephone conferences and other forms of electronic communication.

The Affiliates Assembly has no formal voting procedures and operates on a principle of consultation, striving towards consensus. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation has no obligation to act as advised by the Affiliates Assembly but, if going against consensus of the Affiliates Assembly, will do so with appropriate explanation and justification.

Appointment of Affiliates Assembly Members

The Affiliates Assembly will be comprised of those people so appointed by the Board of Trustees. They will include:

  • Trustees of the Globish Foundation
  • Representatives of Affiliates

All members will be formally recognised as such by having their names on this page.

Commitment of Affiliates Assembly members

Members of the Affiliates Assembly commit to the stated mission and principles of the Globish Foundation. They must be able to assign appropriate resources to their duties, at least expressing their funded opinions on issues that are brought before the Board. Members are expected to be involved on a regular basis in discussions of the Affiliates Assembly, either attending meetings or participating in other scheduled communications (e-mail, teleconferences, IRC) that are provided as alternatives to travel.

Term of Service

Affiliates Assembly members will be appointed for 3-year renewable terms. They may step down if their professional or personal circumstances so require.

The Chair of the Affiliates Assembly will be appointed annually by the Board of Trustees.
